Ever been tagged in a “What I’m Doing Now” post?  I have once.  But today I’m tagging myself in one here.  I haven’t shared much personal stuff on O&P in a minute, so I thought it was appropriate.  I also am gearing back up to bring you some more stories about people besides yours truly, which I’m really, really excited about.  As y’all know, O&P changes along with my interests, and I love, love, love learning about new things, trying out new hobbies, and sharing things that tickle my fancy in this space.

So, here is #whatimdoingnow, in no particular order:

1) Baby loving

My niece Elah is just the sweetest, cutest baby on the block, and none of us can get enough of her.  And check out that adorable newborn Easter dress!

We took her for her first #ladieswholunch outing in Thomasville at Jonah’s Fish n Grits last week, which was an awesome break from a long work week.

 2) A little thrifting

I haven’t done much thrift shopping as of late, but I did make a quick pit stop into Kaleidoscope last week and scored these bee needlepoint smoking slippers (that fit perfectly!) for $20 bucks.  I almost can’t wait for fall to wear them.  Almost.

 3) yoga

I mentioned this before, but I’m just so grateful to have finally found a form of exercise I really identify with and love.  It’s made such a drastic difference in my body, as well as in my mental and emotional health.  I also want to give a shoutout to my awesome yoga instructor and owner at Lotus Yoga & Holistic Wellness, Lindsey.  I’ll be sharing more about her as she opens her new studio, but until then you can find her current class schedule here.  She’s helped me reach yoga goals that I never, ever would have thought I could do when I started back in January.

And speaking of yoga… I’d like to be

4) stand up paddleboarding.

I learned how to yolo/sup/stand up paddleboard last weekend at the beach with some gal pals.  It is SO MUCH FUN.  After seeing it on Instagram, I decided to also try some SUP yoga… Talk about a core workout!  I promptly began saving my pennies for my own paddleboard.

5) seeing the Avett Brothers

A couple of weekends ago, we were lucky enough to go see the Avett Brothers in concert in Tallahassee at Cascade Park.  They put on a great show and we had a blast.

Have I mentioned that Wheat broke his neck as well?  Yes, this freak accident happened on Easter weekend.  Boys and girls: never carry heavy, wrought iron chairs over your head… especially whilst walking on slippery, wet decks.  He has a slight compression fracture in his C5 vertebrae, and we’re hoping he’ll be out of that awful neck brace very soon!

6) Maiden South

Art & Wine Walk at Maiden South | Oysters & PearlsWe participated in the downtown Bainbridge Art & Wine Walk last weekend and it was so much fun!  We love having Mills Brock’s photography in the shop.  Come by and see if it you didn’t make it in last weekend!  We’ll actually be closed this Thursday night, but we’ll be open Friday and Saturday!

7) Spring Beekeeping

It’s spring, and our sweet bee hive has swarmed no less than four times and is still kicking. With all the rain, we haven’t been able to check our two backyard hives in a couple of weeks, which we thought would be a real problem. But the sun came out yesterday and we got in both hives, and they’re both doing great. No queen cells really to speak of, and we met the new Queen Bee in said swarming hive. Meet Beeatrice!

8) Hitting Pause

Trying to make a conscious effort to hit the pause button and enjoy pretty little moments like this view of a sunset and some Lady Banks roses a couple Fridays ago at the Bainbridge Country Club.

Friday Finds

Not that I’ll have new finds every Friday to post about, but I thought I ought to at least come up with a name, since it is definitely a recurring pattern.  Anyway, this find is not one that I actually found myself!  My parents picked this one up for me at an antique store in Beaufort, South Carolina a couple weeks ago.  The best we can figure, it was either a jewelry store display, or perhaps a tourist souvenir at a Japanese pearl factory.

It shows the different ages and sizes of a spiny oyster, which is the oyster that they use for cultured salt water pearls.  In the center are the different colors the pearls can be.  The pearls in the center are perfect, and so pretty.  From what I can tell through online research (which isn’t much), many of these were probably disassembled to get the pearls out.

Can anyone read Japanese and want to translate this for me?

This is one of the neatest gifts I’ve gotten in a long time… oysters AND pearls?  Too cool!  Thank you so much, Doc and Usa! :)

If anyone knows anything else about these cultured pearl displays, please share in the comments!  I couldn’t find much about it online, but did see where a couple others have been sold on eBay.  I’d love to learn more about them.  I love mine, and get really happy when I see it on my kitchen wall each day!  I have pretty awesome parents.

Hope everyone has an amazing weekend!  Wheat and I are having his mom’s family over tomorrow for burgers, which is going to be fun.  I’m excited about spending tomorrow morning baking a cake!
