I decided that since I haven’t cooked at all this week (unless you count making a salad) that it was the perfect opportunity to do another Friday Finds post. TGIF!
Here’s what I’m digging this week.
I love this CoverGirl lipstick line. It’s seriously the best. There are SO many colors that look good on literally almost everyone. My new favorite is Rush, which is the perfect neutral-ish Fall color. I’ve been wearing it nonstop since I impulse purchased it at Wally-world last week.
My boss recently bought the office this devotional, and we have done one “day” once a week at our staff meetings. I have really, really been enjoying it. It’s not a super-religious devotional, but is focused on “choosing joy.” It really is so hard to remember sometimes to count your blessings instead of your annoyances. As someone this morning mentioned, if the whole world threw their worst problem in a pot, you would probably want the one you threw in back. I have been trying very hard to “choose joy” since we started reading it.
I thought I’d share a little bit of the message from last week, since it really resonated with me:
“Gratitute is a choice. It is a conscious and deliberate decision to focus on life’s blessings rather than its shortcomings. Life will always have shortcomings, and it will always have virtues. When you focus on your blessings, your life feels abundant. When you focus on what’s missing, life feels incomplete. Where you point the spotlight of your attention is purely a matter of choice.”
“Gratitude is also an effective antidote to most negative emotions. You cannot experience gratitude and hostility at the same time; you have to make a choice. Which one is it going to be? The more things you appreciate today, the more things you will notice tomorrow to be grateful for. On the flip side, the less appreciative you are today, the fewer blessings you will tend to acknowledge tomorrow. The Greek philosopher Epictetus said, ‘He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not but rejoices for those which he has.’”
I also loved what Julie over at Peanut Butter Fingers said a few weeks ago that their Pastor shared with them: “This does not bless me, but I am blessed.” What an awesome way to vent while still counting your blessings! Because we all know that sometimes you just have to let out some steam, no matter how grateful and blessed and joyful you are.
That candle also smells really good. I brought the baby Queen conch back from our honeymoon on Great Exuma in the Bahamas. Shhhh, don’t tell the authorities. Update: my wise Father let me know that I had a mature Mill Conch on my night stand, not an immature Queen Conch. I had no idea! In case you were wondering, I am my Father’s daughter.
I just got this new sparkly J.Crew necklace, and I have been loving it alone, but I especially love it layered on top of this old J.Crew pearl necklace. I have had it for a couple years now, but it’s so popular you can still nab one of your own. J.Crew Pearl Necklace, J.Crew Wildflower Necklace
Speaking of J.Crew, they are killing it in the shoe department right now. I am dying over all of these shoes from J.Crew at the moment. Utterly and unashamedly lusting. I only have one pair of these (the McAlister wedge boots from last year), but I am looking to add to my collection fer sher. And these are just the ones I could fit on my Polyvore board. #wantalltheshoes
Harold & Wallace
First of all, I’m loving on Harold’s new haircut.
I am still loving his collar from Anna at Proper Paws, too. But what wouldn’t look cute on this face? #dogmodel
And I don’t think I will ever get sick of watching Harold and Wallace play. Here’s an action shot.
They are SO funny! Follow me on Instagram for lots of videos of them playing. Too cute.
Finally, I’ll leave you with my new favorite tunes.
I lerv this video. So weird, and so awesome.
And it’s SO crazy she’s only 16 years old. She’s from New Zealand, and her real name is Ella Yelich-O’Connor.
I might be late to the game finding out about her, but I’m infatuated.
I’m also obsessed with her hair. The higher the hair, the closer to God! Or so they say. In Texas.
I may or may not have pre-ordered her new album.
This weekend we are planning to lay low, watch college football, and listen to Lorde. Okay, the last part might just be me. Lorde (and red wine) have gotten me through audit week. But we might also celebrate Wheat’s birthday a little early this weekend. He turns old on Wednesday! ;)
Hope y’all have a good weekend!
