WIKN: Baby Hats

Because even though it will be early May, erry body knows that babies need hats.  And plenty of ’em.  So I’ve been knitting them.

I sort of previewed on of these baby knits in my last post, as I was working on it at Maiden South Knit Night last week.  This hat is called “Baby Twister,” and it’s a cute little cabled hat.  And a really easy one, too, I might add!

If you’re wanting to test out cables, this would be a great pattern to try them out.  It looks fancy, but it’s literally just one little set of cables, only held in front, every 8 rows or so.  Easy, peasy!  This photo was taken before I washed and blocked it, by the way.  And I knitted this out of Appalachian Baby Design Organic Cotton, which is washable and dry-able!  It’s a little big though, so naturally, I had to knit a tinier, newborn sized hat with my leftover cotton yarn!

This photo was taken while this wee hat was still a bit wet while blocking.  But it’s tiny and wee and cute!

This pattern is for a Basic Newborn Hat – visit my Ravelry page (oystersandpurls!) for details.  I made one for Elah when she was just a wee little babe, so naturally I had to knit one for baby K.

Next up, I had told you before about these Tiny Britches I knitted up a while back – I’m obsessed with them!

I decided that I wanted to knit a matching baby bonnet out of my leftover Spud and Chloe Sweater yarn (superwash, aka machine washable and dry-able, obvi).  So I excitedly cast on this Simple Folded Bonnet with my leftovers a couple weeks ago.

Well, turns out not weighing my yarn was a poor decision and I quickly ran out of yarn.  Luckily, I texted my yarn dealer and friend, Cadence, to pull me a skein at Fuzzy Goat (and luckily, she had another one in the shop!)  So I had a brief hiatus (in which I casted on the above two hats with stash yarn instead) before I picked back up and finished this little bonnet.  Which is my new favorite thing ever.  I worked on it a bit in the shop, and I’m sharing another in-progress shot because I love this bonnet so much.

I finished it Masters Sunday morning, and my new skill with this project was teaching myself to knit an i-cord.  Now I also feel like I have a new survival skill – I CAN KNIT ROPE!

I read something somewhere that there is no article of clothing that could ever be made with more love than one you knit for your own child.  This little bonnet epitomizes that for me.  I absolutely cannot wait to share pictures of these little hats on little baby Kirbo’s head, and I most especially cannot believe it’s less than a month away. We’re so ready to meet you, Bebe!

PS! I added a KNIT page to the EXPLORE tab up top – click over to peruse all my past knitting posts if you’re interested!  There are also pages for recipes, beekeeping, and more. :)

Weekend Update

This weekend kicked off on Thursday night with the final Learn to Knit class taught by Carolina from the Fuzzy Goat in Thomasville. Carolina is a great teacher, and these lovely ladies took to knitting like fish to water!

I also spotted some amazing April Fool’s jokes on Facebook that had me LOLing. Anyone else spot any good ones?

Also, this slays me.

Turns out we aren’t the only ones, Wheat!

Friday was non-stop torrential downpours, but when the rain cleared out, we had the most gorgeous Saturday!

I spent most of the day working at Maiden South, and of course had to sneak in my weekly shop bump pic. I absolutely cannot believe we’ve only got 4 weeks or so to go before we meet this little babe!

I spent a good amount of time relaxing and knitting this weekend. I cast on a simple cream baby bonnet to match the tiny pants I already knit this baby, and then promptly ran out of yarn. Picking up another skein of Spud and Chloe Sweater this week at Fuzzy Goat.

PS we just got these adorable little Maiden South knit/crochet gauge rulers in – $20 and we’ve got ’em listed online!
So I also worked on my Slope tank (below) as well as casted on yet another baby hat – this one in Appalachian Baby Organic Cotton with lots of sweet little cables. The weather was so nice I did lots of outdoor knitting!  I’ll do a complete knitting post with patterns as soon as I get some pictures.

PPS Birkenstocks = Summer Uggs.  Ugly, but so comfortable.

Sunday I did some much-needed sleeping in with these two critters. And by sleeping in I mean I got out of bed at 8:30. Weh. #imold

I got to work satisfying a craving while also breaking in our Christmas present from my parents: making pancakes in our Blanc Creatives skillet! It is an absolute DREAM to cook on!

Again, please.

Sunday was mostly knitting, very-much-needed relaxing, Wheat smoked a Boston butt, and I packed my hospital bag. The countdown to baby K is on!

Have a great week, friends!
